The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer specializing in PHP and the Laravel framework to join our Scrum team. This role focuses on building robust back-end functionality to power dashboards, reporting features, and application integrations. You’ll work closely with front-end developers, data teams, and other technical stakeholders to design scalable APIs, database structures, and integrations that meet product and business requirements.

As a core member of the development team, you’ll write clean, maintainable code, contribute to sprint goals, and ensure your work meets the team’s Definition of Done (DoD) while collaborating in a highly agile environment.

Responsibilities:

Build and Deliver Product Increments:

· Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable PHP/Laravel code.

· Develop RESTful APIs, backend services, and database structures to support dashboard features, reports, and external system integrations.

· Collaborate with the Data Virtualization Expert and Front-End Developers to ensure seamless data flow and integration.

· Contribute to the continuous delivery of production-ready back-end software that meets the Definition of Done (DoD).

Collaboration and Scrum Participation:

· Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies: sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.

· Work closely with the Development Team Lead to align back-end architecture with system design and best practices.

· Partner with the Product Owner and Business Analyst to clarify user stories, technical requirements, and edge cases.

Quality Assurance & Testing:

· Perform peer code reviews to uphold high code quality standards and share knowledge.

· Proactively identify bugs, bottlenecks, and performance issues and resolve them efficiently.

Problem Solving:

· Troubleshoot and debug complex backend systems and integrations.

· Propose technical solutions to overcome challenges or blockers during development.

Continuous Improvement:

· Refactor and optimize existing code to improve maintainability, scalability, and performance.

· Stay current with Laravel, PHP advancements, and back-end best practices.

· Actively contribute to improving team workflows, coding standards, and development practices.

Documentation:

· Create or update documentation for APIs, database schemas, and integration points.

· Record key technical decisions, assumptions, and workarounds.

Adhere to Team Standards:

· Follow coding guidelines, design patterns, and company best practices.

· Use Git effectively, including branching, merging, and pull requests.

· Align all work with priorities set by the Product Owner and supported by the Development Team Lead.

· Comply with established workflows for development, testing, and escalation.

Proactive Communication:

· Communicate risks, blockers, or technical concerns early to enable timely resolution.

· Provide regular progress updates during stand-ups and team discussions.

Requirements:

· 3+ years of professional experience in PHP backend development, with strong expertise in Laravel.

· Solid understanding of RESTful API development, database design (MySQL/PostgreSQL), and backend system architecture.

· Experience working on dashboard/reporting systems or data-driven applications.

· Familiarity with external system integrations (APIs, webhooks, third-party services).

· Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) and design principles.

· Experience writing and maintaining unit tests and integration tests.

· Proficient in Git version control workflows.

· Comfortable working in an Agile / Scrum team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Knowledge of queue systems, caching strategies (Redis, Memcached), and job processing.

· Experience integrating with data visualization systems or services.

· Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deployment pipelines.

· Understanding of security best practices for data handling and API development.

· Exposure to SSO and authentication systems.
